Louie Horace Strickland

Louie Horace Strickland, 89, passed away September 15, 2019.  He was born March 24, 1930 in Alpharetta, Georgia to the late David Horace and Mattie Christine (Wood) Strickland.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Strickland; son, Baby Boy Strickland; and his sister, Frances Vaughan; 

Louie joined the Army in 1951 serving  during the Korean War. After his time in the service he worked for Sears before signing  on with the Post Office as a letter carrier in 1957.  He was a mailman in the Atlanta Airport and then in Dundalk, Maryland until his retirement in 1985.  He also worked for Kraft Cheese and was the equipment manager for the Baltimore Orioles Baseball club from 1986 to 1995.  In March 1995 the Strickland's moved to Holmes Beach, Florida where Louie has worked for the Island Publix since opening day until retirement 2 months ago.  He loved spending time on his farm in Georgia.  Louie was full of life, charming ,witty, funny, sweet and had the most infectious laugh and the most beautiful smile in the world.  He touched so many lives and will be greatly be missed by his family and many friends from all over the world.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Chris Berra of Bradenton; son, Robert Strickland of Dewy Rose, Georgia; granddaughter, Amy Christine Berra and her fiancé Taylor; sister  Shirley Martin and her husband Roy of Cumming, Georgia; brother, Roy Lee Strickland and his wife Betty of Villa Rica, Georgia.

Interment with military honors will be on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 SR 72, Sarasota, Florida 34241.  There will be a celebration honoring Louie’s life on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 2:30 pm at Louie’s house on Holmes Beach.  

Memorial contributions may be made in Louie’s honor to the Holmes Beach EMS, fire fighters or Tidewell Hospice.  Arrangements are being handled for the family by Maloney Funeral Home.  www.MFHcares.com.
