Joseph Edward Williams

Joseph Edward Williams, 84, passed away March 1, 2024. He was born April 21, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Joseph Alloysius and Madeline Ann (Swayne) Williams. Joseph was raised as a Catholic and was a graduate of Suffolk Community College. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) as well as the Marine Corp League. His career included working with International Business Machines Corporation (IBM); working as an Investigator at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility and serving as a Technical Sergeant with the Air National Guard. He was an avid collector and liked the great outdoors including boating, fishing and camping. He also liked playing pool, bocce ball and searching his family’s genealogy. He was proud of his Irish descent and even learned to play the bagpipes. He was passionate about writing, research and documentation and even wrote his own autobiography that told the story of his life through interesting stories, photos and great memories. He gifted each of his family members with a copy that they all cherish. One of his latest adventures was a "This is your life Joseph Williams" tour of Brooklyn and Manhattan for his 80th Birthday. On the tour he and his family visited where he was born, worked, hung-out and other significant places that were meaningful to him. He was so happy to take this trip down memory lane. Spending time with his large family was his favorite. He was always there for them and provided lots of laughs. He had a generous heart and was very compassionate, helpful and kind and was loved by all those that knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Rosemary Tesoriero Williams; daughters Karen Ann Williams of Sarasota and Diane Marie Williams of New York; son Joseph Vincent Williams and his wife Stephanie of New York; grandchildren Derya Senver Wiegand and her husband Adam; Sibel Senver; Alis Senver; Kenan Senver; Liam Williams and Lyla Williams; great grandchildren Connor, Brandon and Elli Wiegand; Jessie and Jace Taylor; and Steven Rosario. There will be a service with military honors on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 10:30 am at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Florida 34241. Immediately following the burial, there will be a Celebration of Joseph’s Life that will take place from 11:30 to 4:00 at the Hampton Inn by Hilton (I-75 Bee Ridge), 5995 Cattleridge Blvd, Sarasota, Florida 34232. In lieu of gifts, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s honor to Toys for Tots, the Marine Corps League or a cause of your liking.
