Florence E. Vendeville It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Florence E. Vendeville, who passed away peacefully in Sarasota, Florida on July 6, 2026 following a courageous two-year battle with illness. Born on August 20, 1939 in Delaware, Florence lived a life devoted to family, hard work, and community. Florence shared nearly 40 years of marriage with her husband and best friend, William “Bill” Vendeville. Her greatest comfort was Bill’s unwavering love and devotion. He faithfully remained by her side throughout her illness, holding her hand until her final breath. Their marriage of 39 years and 11 months was built on friendship, loyalty, and unconditional love. She retired after a long career in property management in Delaware, including many years with Leon Weiner & Associates. Florence was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and volunteered at nursing homes, VA hospitals and many other places. She was active in numerous Democratic campaigns in Maryland, Delaware, and Florida . She even ran as a candidate for Delegate because she believed in serving her community and standing up for what she believed. Proud of her Irish heritage, Florence especially loved celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and the Fourth of July. She enjoyed parades, watching birds, spirited political discussions, and spending time with Bill, family, and friends. Her family believes she held on just long enough to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday. She is survived by her beloved husband, William “Bill” Vendeville; her son, Robert J. Irwin and wife, Dora; her daughters, Samantha Irwin and Jane Irwin (Sharon); her granddaughters, Sarah Knoll (Jeff) and Caitlin Irwin (Rob); her great-granddaughter, Tabitha Knoll; her brothers, David (Debbie) and Michael; her beloved grand-puppy, Bodhi; her dear lifelong friends, Dolores O’Callaghan (Patrick) and Carolyn Wells along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Florence McGonigle; her sisters, Georgi Paisley and Linda Stoops; and her brother, John McGonigle. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Florence’s honor to the National Audubon Society, the Wounded Warrior Project, the World Wildlife Fund, or another charitable organization that supports wildlife, conservation, veterans, or the causes closest to your heart. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal”-
