Gladys Elizabeth Berkey

April 18, 1928 - March 10, 2022

Gladys Elizabeth Berkey, 93, passed away March 10, 2022. She was born April 18, 1928 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania to the late Edward and Elizabeth (Epley) Clayton. Gladys graduated from Jeannette High School and attended Valley Forge Christian College. Her life was devoted to Christ and to her husband in a lifetime of ministry to others. She led a dynamic ministry to pastors’ wives. She loved to read the Bible and was an incredible woman of prayer. 
Gladys enjoyed reading, baking, needlepoint, cross stitching and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She came to Sarasota in 1999 from Deltona, Florida where she had spent 2 years. Prior to that she came to Florida from Agawam, Massachusetts. The Tabernacle Church of Sarasota was her church home. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 74 and half years, Pastor Edward B. Berkey; sons, Dr. E. Dale Berkey and his wife Deborah Kay; Douglas Neil Berkey and his wife Cheryl; daughter, Damaris Ann Berkey; grandchildren, Breanna Miller and her husband Tommi; Brittany Hayes and her husband Cameron; Blake Berkey and his wife Alexandra; and Cambria Ryan and her husband Justin; great grandchildren, Colt, Mia, Payton, Rory, Penelope and Clayton; mother of the three granddaughters, Doris Berkey; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah; sisters, Doris and Hazel; and brother, Robert. Visitation will be Sunday, March 13, 2022 from 1:30 to 2:00 pm at The Tabernacle Church, 4141 Desoto Road, Sarasota, Florida 34235. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. Graveside service will take place in Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown, Pennsylvania under the direction of the John Henderson Funeral Service in Johnstown.
