Matthew Jay Zehr, Sr., 57, passed away January 20, 2022. He was born February 3, 1964 in Lowville, New York to the late Gerald Milford Zehr, Sr. and Angeline Lajune (Knechtel) Zehr. Matthew came to Sarasota in 2002 from Lowville, New York. He was of the Mennonite faith and attended Bayshore Church. In the past, he had worked in a paper mill, drove truck and sold Interstate Batteries. He enjoyed fishing, boating and motorcycles. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to laugh and was always there to make you smile. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Matthew Zehr, Jr. and his wife Karline; daughter, Elizabeth Zehr and her husband Santiago Hernandez; grandchildren, Lael, Josiah, Naomi, Vivian, Alexandra and George Henry; siblings, Sharlene Cole and her partner Calvin, Karen Hoch and her husband James, Lorraine Strough and her husband Allen, Gerald Zehr, Jr. and his wife Kelly, Martha Haskins and her husband David, Timothy Zehr and his wife Lori and Chester Zehr and his wife Gloria. In addition to his parents, Matthew was predeceased by his brother Faron. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Bethel Mennonite Church.
