Cathy "Cap" Stutzman

Cathy (Cap) Stutzman, 81, passed away on February 25, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, joy, and unwavering love for her family. Cathy was known for her athleticism and competitive spirit. Whether on the softball field, tennis court, or golf course, she played with enthusiasm and determination. However, more than any sport, Cathy loved her family. Her greatest pride and deepest joy were her two grandchildren. She adored them beyond measure and was their most faithful supporter, traveling near and far to attend every sporting event. Her presence in the stands was constant and her encouragement unwavering. That same devotion extended to her nieces, nephews, and beyond. If a child she loved was participating, Cathy was there, cheering, celebrating, and beaming with pride. She had a special gift with children. Her face would light up in their presence, and they were naturally drawn to her warmth and kindness. Her faith was the foundation of everything she did. Cathy loved God deeply and cherished her church family. She lived her faith not only in words but in action by caring for everyone around her. She also had a well-known sweet tooth and was famous for making the most delicious desserts, which became a treasured tradition at family gatherings. Sharing something homemade from her kitchen was simply another way she showed love. Cathy will be remembered for her joyful spirit, her steadfast faith, and the way she showed up time and again for the people she loved. Her legacy lives on in the countless games she attended, the hugs she gave, the prayers she lifted, and the desserts shared around the table. Cathy was born to the late Ezra and Edith Knepp on August 14, 1944, in Montgomery, Indiana. She has been a full-time resident of Sarasota since the 1960’s. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 53 years, Dave; sons Jeff Morganstern and Chad Stutzman and his wife Amanda; grandchildren Mackenzie Aylsworth and her husband Drew, and Courtney Stutzman, and a great-grandchild on the way; siblings Lee Knepp, Vernon Knepp and his wife Nancy, Shirley Stutzman and her husband Gary, Sue Schrock, Sharon Yancey and her husband Eugene, Jean Renno and her husband Tom, and Ruth Rentie. In addition to her parents, Cathy was predeceased by her brother John Knepp, sisters-in-law Lynn Knepp and Maria Knepp, and brother-in-law Dick Schrock. A celebration of life service is planned for Sunday, March 8, 2026, with visitation beginning at 2pm and service at 3pm at Abundant Life Church, 6461 Proctor Road, Sarasota, Florida 34241.
