Ronald H. Schmidt

Ronald H. Schmidt passed on peacefully to a better life with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on November 26, 2022. Ron was in the company of his loving family as he left this world and journeyed thru heaven’s gates into eternal life with Jesus Christ. Ron was a devoted and loving husband, a loved, respected, and cherished father, an honored and beloved grandfather, a revered, invaluable, and treasured father-in-law, and a caring and gentle soul to many other family members and friends. He was born in 1944 in Camden, NJ to Charles and Elsie Schmidt. He had one older brother, Jerry. All three preceded Ron and are reuniting gloriously. Ron married the love of his life, his high-school sweetheart, Donna on September 9, 1967. Ron devoted his entire earthly life, ever faithful and devoted, to loving and cherishing his wife and together raising their three children Joanna (Larry), Richard (Lisa), and Michael (Amy) and seven grandchildren: John, Christopher, Madison, Mason, Matthew, Emerson, and Sarah. Ron served in the Navy (1964-1968) during the Vietnam War on a Navy Destroyer, USS O-Hara and the Calcaterra. After his time in service, Ron utilized his GI Bill to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Barry University. He then went on to work for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for 30 years and retired at 55. Ron enjoyed spending time with his wife and family and spent the years participating in many activities such as snow and water skiing, tennis, weekends and activities at the beach house, walks, cruises, and other travels. Ron was an active in his churches- an usher at McGregor Baptist Church and active member at Lakewood Ranch Baptist. Ron loved the Lord and as the years went on, he grew in his knowledge, faith and demonstrated that as he became an inspiration, model, witness, teacher, mentor and friend to many in life that crossed his path. His example and inspiration will continue to live on by his family with the many memories they shared over the years. His love will be forever in our hearts and he will be truly missed here on Earth. Ronnie, Ron, Dad, Pop Pop- until we meet again in heaven—we love you. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at Lakewood Ranch Baptist Church, 5600 Deer Drive, Sarasota, FL, 34240 on Saturday, 3 December at 2:30pm.
